“Endurance, resilience, and will are the key ingredients to be able to succeed in a start-up.”
In this episode of The Outliers Podcast, childhood friends Ilias Sousis, an ex-Googler, and Petros Sagos, an agronomist, share their journey in founding Wikifarmer, a global platform aimed at empowering farmers. They reflect on how farmers often receive the least value from the agricultural chain despite producing the most essential part: the product. Wikifarmer began as an educational resource, offering best practices in 17 languages, and evolved into a comprehensive marketplace.
Over time, Wikifarmer grew into a global marketplace, offering 360-degree services that include logistics, financing, quality control, and conflict resolution. These tools ensure farmers can operate efficiently while earning fair prices for their products.
Despite facing significant challenges, including the impact of COVID-19, Ilias and Petros secured €5M in seed funding, backed by Point Nine to further digitize agriculture and position Greece as a key player in the global startup ecosystem.
In this episode, Ilias and Petros reflect on leadership, defining it as envisioning new paths and being brave enough to take them. Resilience, they emphasize, has been essential in navigating the ups and downs of building Wikifarmer into a global platform that ensures farmers receive the value they deserve.
