Dr. Polychronis Xekalakis is a leading expert in computer architecture and systems engineering, currently serving as a Senior Distinguished Engineer (Fellow) and Chief Architect at NVIDIA. With over a decade of experience in cutting-edge processor design and optimization, he has played a pivotal role in shaping next-generation computing technologies.

Dr. Xekalakis earned his Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh, focusing on speculative multithreaded execution models. Prior to that, he completed his Dipl.Eng. at the University of Patras, laying the foundation for his deep expertise in computer systems.

Before joining NVIDIA, he was a key contributor at Intel’s Platform Engineering Group, where he worked on advanced processor architectures, leading to multiple patents in instruction length decoding and efficient call/return emulation using a dual return stack buffer. His research has been widely recognized in top-tier conferences, including ISCA and ICS.

Beyond industry, Dr. Xekalakis has a strong academic footprint, mentoring graduate students and collaborating on innovations in GPU efficiency, such as eliminating redundant fragment shader executions through hardware memoization.
