Create an easier way for Greeks to choose insurance policies.
Insurance Market offers independent financial and insurance consulting services by building e-marketplaces. Through an online insurance aggregator, they have created an easier and more affordable way for Greeks to compare, select and purchase insurance policies. Sotiris founded Money Market in 2006. Shifting the company’s focus to insurance, Sortiris brought on Manolis, an insurance market expert who at the time was the head of Infotrust’s Athens office. After experimenting with online platforms, the entrepreneurs overhauled the user interface and re-launched the aggregator as insurancemarket.gr in 2011. Once a customer selects a policy, the company acts on behalf of insurance companies as a full-service online brokerage partner – answering customer’s inquiries, handling sales by underwriting policies and processing applications, collecting payments, and assisting customers with their claims. In 2013, the company signed a strategic partnership deal with Achmea BV, the largest Dutch insurer. In 2015, the website was further improved to allow the users to evaluate the products and services and now has over 100,000 unique visitors each month and facilitates 4,000 direct sales.
Sotiris Papantonopoulos-Mantopoulos (CEO) and Manolis Marsellos (COO) have extensive experience in their field. While pursuing his BA in Economics at the University of Piraeus, Manolis founded Marsellos Services, an insurance brokerage firm. In 2007, Marsellos Services merged with Infotrust S.A., one of Greece’s largest insurance brokerages. As Infortrust’s General Director for Southern Greece, Manolis was responsible for designing and implementing company-wide IT based business processes. Sotiris acquired a BSc in Finance and International Marketing from Boston University and spent three years at Gruntal & Co LLC in Boston and New York where he served as the Senior VP for Institutional Sales. After receiving his MSc in Management from the London School of Economics in 1999, Sotiris worked at Hellenic Land, a British fund owned by Soros Real Estate Investment Partners.
